Feathersome Case Study

The One Hope Two Give Postcards: Through partner organisations, women receive a hand-written postcard of hope collected from a person within the community. Using social media, the effect of these single messages is multiplied with community liking and comments. Our page following of complementary services provides online access to resources that are available to the recipient. The process acts not only as a message of goodwill, it centralises some of the online services available to recipients. You can support by writing a card, following and liking on instagram or facilitating the program within your organisation.

Feathersome Case Study

Has been collected and distributed via 14 partnerships, 196 cards have landed in the hands of women, 445 cards have been written by men, women and children from all walks of life. Via awareness events and social activity 7481 people have engaged with the message. The impact over and above the numbers make my heart sing. We heard that two women had connected at a job interview and realised, they knew each other via the OHTG Instagram.

The Printed Journal: The Feathersome journal offers you an opportunity to read inspiring and intelligent stories about women leading in business, creativity, education, habitat, politics and wellbeing. We curate and print original articles providing access to female courage, resilience, ingenuity and truth. The Journal is a high-quality publication of original articles complemented with a unique design and artwork. We aim for our readers to fully immerse themselves in women’s storytelling and its legacy. The Q&A stories and case articles, along with positive and ethical advertising, provide readers with resources to assist them with their own challenges, encouraging them to move to their own next steps with confidence and support.

We raised just over $4000 in our crowdfunding campaign, interviewed 19 fascinating individuals, have partnerships with 5 independent book stores along the east coast of Australia. The journal was also entered into the State Library of Queensland collection and database as a significant record of women in leadership activity.

You me and a cup of tea: A pop up Q & A café, enabling women to share their stories, ask questions and connect with other leaders. Our partnered or signature events offer an opportunity to share stories through writing a One Hope Two Give postcard and by adding voice to our web and print publicatios. Attendees may also contribute questions for panelists or answering them in a Q&A podcasting session. We love connecting you to likeminded people and hosting discussions with diverse women who are leading with courage and strength. Some of these conversations will be podcast on our website. Both panel discussions and community pods alike form a record of authentic female leadership skills and legacy.

“I’ve never seen anything like this. I go to a lot of these events and it’s kind of like aggressive networking. I just love what this does because it makes you reflect take a step back and think about questions for female leaders.”

Journaling Courage: is an interactive workshop designed to build self-esteem and confidence in women. Through a set of active listening, scripting and framing exercises each participant is guided to identify their own leadership capability. Our participants recognise how they have come through adversity and understand that they have gathered a toolbox of developed resources that can align them to leadership.

It is an hour and a half opportunity for a women to connect with her own story, listen to the wisdom of other women and openly share meaningful strategies for feminine empowerment, growth and leadership.

Courageous Conversations: Together we discussed, questioned and explored topics inspired by women’s stories, person to person and delved deeper into feminist subject matter. There was ample opportunity to ask an inspiring woman a question and participate in some thought-provoking and diverse dialogue and all with a coffee and croissant in hand. Yum!

The Courageous Conversations experience was offered after nearly two years of asking ordinary women to have the courage to share their stories of leadership, adversity, resourcefulness and legacy. The first set of these stories have been showcased in Feathersome Journal. Through these experiences, and inspired by female story-telling, we have explored and shared wisdom through our own Courageous Conversations – over a few hundred cups of tea, laughs, tears, learning, challenge and fun! Our conversations are part of the living body of work at Feathersome. We receive so much benefit, personally and as a team and we want to continue to share it with you again soon. Thank you to all our courageous companions who came along with big questions and even bigger hearts.

You Me and a Cup of Tea, Journaling Courage and a Courageous Conversation were offered to capacity and sold out audiences. It’s been an honour to be in the room and share the authentic discussions.

The Mentorship: We have mentored 8 students through the year through LeadHer Stories at Mabel Park SHS and relationships with Griffith, UQ and ACU. A full time job was secured due to the experience and opportunity with Feathersome.

The Volunteers: 43 people offered time, brains, heart and soul to Feathersome and we would not have been able to do all of the above with them. The numbers of community who have been in touch and offered support is countless. Powerful.

The Team: A 4 human working group of clever, creative and ceaselessly giving people. It is an absolute joy to work with beautiful people.

I have so much gratitude for Feathersome, for the mentorship, friendship, and opportunities it has given me, to step into myself and step up to new challenges. There is a quiet assurance and confidence that I carry with me now from better understanding myself and my potential, which I owe to Janine’s amazing role modeling and leadership style. Not only does she continuously inspire me with her ability to make connections between seemingly unrelated elements, but her sharp perspective is always able to make sense and truth out of complexity. I’ve felt simultaneously stretched and supported on my journey with Feathersome and through it have found a group of like-minded women who strive to add meaning in their lives and the lives of others. I could never have imagined my chance meeting that would bring me on a rollercoaster through startup land, design thinking, social impact, publishing and so much more. Bronte Wilson
